The Methodist University College Ghana and the University of Venda, South Africa met to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the University College’s main campus Dansoman- Accra, on Friday, 15th November, 2019.
The President of the Methodist University College, Prof. Akwasi Asabere –Ameyaw, the Registrar Mr. Okyere Boateng, Deputy Registrar Mr. Gideon Foh, Deans, Acting Librarian Mrs. Evelyn O. Apronti Tetteh, Internal Auditor Mr. Thomas Addai and Senior Assistant Registrar Mrs. Norma Adjoteye gathered in the University’s Council Chamber for this important moment.
Earlier this year, Professor George-Ivo Ekosse, Director, Research and Innovation from the University of Venda, led his team to meet with Management of MUCG to discuss a possible collaboration.
In a welcome address by the President, Prof. Akwasi Asabere- Ameyew mentioned that it is now time for African intellectuals to do things differently. He is of great hope that, the University of Venda and Methodist University College Ghana would team up to pave the way for other African intellectuals to emulate and together eliminate the ignorance of seeing Africa as a dark continent.
He called on African intellectuals to see it as responsibility to increase the knowledge base of Africa through research with institutions of higher learning.
He expressed his appreciation to Prof. Ekosse and Ag. Librarian Mrs. Evelyn O. Apronti Tetteh for initiating the collaboration.
On his part, Professor George-Ivo Ekosse thanked management and stated that Africans must liberate from ignorance and be united to change the perceptions of the whites that blacks are inferior. “We must live above tribalism and see ourselves as continental sons and daughters”, he added.
He said he believed that one day the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) would translate into Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Methodist University College Ghana and the University of Venda.
